Terms of Service

1. What Companion Is

Companion is an AI voice companion designed to support self-reflection, drawing on concepts from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT).

Companion is an artificial intelligence, not a licensed therapist, psychologist, psychiatrist, or medical professional. It is not a substitute for professional mental health care, diagnosis, or treatment, and it is not a crisis service. If you are in immediate danger or thinking about harming yourself, contact emergency services or a crisis line immediately — in the US, call or text 988.

2. How the Service Works

When you talk to Companion, your voice is streamed in real time to our third-party AI provider, xAI, which generates the spoken responses you hear. By using the Service, you consent to your voice input being transmitted to and processed by xAI for this purpose. Companion does not independently verify or fact-check anything the AI says; responses are generated automatically and may be inaccurate, incomplete, or inappropriate.

3. Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old (or the age of majority in your jurisdiction) to use Companion, or have the consent of a parent or guardian if a lower minimum age applies where you live.

4. Accounts

You're responsible for maintaining the security of your account and for all activity that occurs under it. Sign-in is provided via Google through our authentication provider, Clerk.

5. Credit Minutes and Payments

New accounts receive a limited free trial of conversation minutes. Additional minutes can be purchased in fixed packages through Stripe. All purchases are for a defined amount of conversation time and, except as required by applicable law, are non-refundable once granted to your account. We may change pricing or package sizes at any time; changes won't affect minutes you've already purchased.

6. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

• Use the Service for any unlawful purpose or to cause harm to yourself or others;
• Attempt to interfere with, disrupt, or circumvent the Service's security, metering, or payment systems;
• Use the Service to generate content that violates the rights of others.

We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service if we believe you've violated these Terms.

7. No Warranty

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We do not guarantee the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that AI responses will be accurate or helpful.

8. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Companion and its operators will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of the Service, including any reliance on AI-generated responses.

9. Third-Party Services

Your use of the Service is also subject to the terms of our service providers, including xAI, Clerk, and Stripe.

10. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
