The AI That Actually Remembers You: No More Starting from Scratch

The Exhaustion of Retelling Your Story

One of the most frustrating parts of using typical AI chatbots — or even starting with a new human listener — is the need to constantly start from scratch. When you are going through a long, ongoing struggle, having to retell your entire story every single time you open an app can be exhausting. To solve this, a new feature has been introduced to the Companion voice AI: Memory.

How the Memory Feature Works

When you turn the memory feature on, the AI keeps a short, written summary of your previous conversations. This means that the next time you tap to talk out loud, you can pick up exactly where you left off. The AI remembers the context of what you've been going through, allowing the conversation to flow naturally without the burden of constant re-explanation.

Privacy and Complete Control

When it comes to personal thoughts and reflections, privacy is paramount. The Companion app is designed with strict boundaries around this memory feature. Memory never records or stores the conversations themselves on our servers. With memory on, your most recent conversation is kept in your own browser so it is still there after a refresh, and it stays on that device. Furthermore, the memory feature is turned off by default. If a user chooses to turn it on, they maintain complete control and can delete the written summary permanently at any time.

A Real-World Example: The Job Search

The video demonstrates exactly how this changes the experience. A user tells the AI, “I heard back from the interview.” Because the memory feature is on, the AI already knows the background. It responds, “That’s a big moment after all this time... It sounds like a weight off your shoulders after nine months of searching.” The AI remembers the nine-month journey, allowing it to provide a highly contextual, empathetic response that addresses the user's specific mix of hope and anxiety.

More Actually Being Heard

Ultimately, the goal of giving an AI a memory isn't just about convenience; it's about the quality of the support it provides. By eliminating the need to repeat yourself, the tool allows for less friction and more time spent actually being heard.
